Types of Forex Orders – All You Need To Know

While trading Forex, placing the right order is crucial. The following blog by Top Forex Brokers will describe the most common types of forex orders that will help you sail through the market.

Types of Forex Orders

Market Orders

Simple and direct: instructing broker to buy or sell a currency pair at the best price that can currently be obtained in the market.

Quicker execution: This is when you want to get in or out of the trade fast.

Price fluctuation: The final price of your execution would be a bit different from the price quoted due to the market movement that you have seen while placing the order.

Limit orders

Price Control: In the case of an order limit, the client or investor would mention that he or she wants to buy or sell a currency pair at a certain price.

Target Entry/Exit: Enter a trade at a more preferential price than the prevailing market price by using limit orders; buy limit for a lower price, sell limit for a higher price, or lock in profits at a desired price level.

Not Guaranteed: There is no assurance that your order will be filled, especially if the market price does not reach the price limit you have set.

Stop-Loss Orders:

Risk Control: A stop-loss order is a safety measure to minimize the potential losses. You specify a price, the stop-loss price, below the current market price for a long position, so that it will be automatically sold if it falls, or above the current price for a short position, so that it is automatically bought to close the trade when the price rises.

Peace of Mind: The stop-loss cuts you out of the trade automatically when the market goes against you, thus avoiding huge losses. Other order types include trailing stops. These are variations of the stop-loss orders wherein, in case your trade is moving in your favor, they automatically move the stop-loss price to lock in profit while limiting possible loss.

OCO orders: Stop-loss and a take-profit order are placed, but are linked with each other. When one of them gets filled, the other will then be automatically canceled.

Good-Til-Canceled, Good-Til-End-of-Day, and Good-Til-Time: These refer to the duration for which your order remains valid before the automatic cancellation is initiated. The difference between all three is in the duration of time these orders remain active, as GTC is active until it has been manually canceled; whereas GTD gets cancelled at the end of the trading day, On the other hand, GTT allows traders a certain specified expiry time to be set.

Conclusion

Always remember that knowing each of these order types will help you become a better trader. Select the order that suits your trading strategy and goals for risk management.
